In 1948, the UK based Cookson Group founded Associated Lead Manufacturers (Pty)Ltd in South Africa.
In 1986 the company name was changed to Cookson Chemicals (Pty) Ltd to highlight the growing diversity of its products and to acknowledge the technical expertise provided by its parent company in the United Kingdom.
A merger took place in 1987 between the Zimro Group, an Anglo American subsidiary, and the Cookson Group’s South African interests, forming the Zimco Group, however the name Cookson Chemicals remained unchanged.
In March 1999, Anglo American and the Cookson Group sold their shareholding in the Zimco Group to Eco-bat Technologies and the name was changed to Associated Additives (Pty) Ltd in keeping with its own special identity.
